In 2011 the library received another monetary gift from the Mary Peabody foundation of $250000. It was earmarked for brick and mortar additions to the library. Since then we have received another gift of $50000. Following our strategic plan of 2012, our community assessment was to provide more public meeting/work space, in addition to having more room for a teen space. With this in mind we explored renovating the libraries “red building”, or tearing it down and building a new and separate building or adding on to our existing building. This has been a very thoughtful process that we have gone through for the last 4 years. The final decision is to put a 2500 square foot addition on our current building. It will be 2 stories with an activity/meeting/maker space in the lower level and a library work room on the second level. The current work room would be modified for more small meeting spaces and a computer lab. The addition will be built on current library property to the east of the building (the back).
On September 19th we presented these drawings to the Boyne City planning commission. The main street design board will be reviewing them at their meeting on Oct 3 at 5:30 pm in the libraries community room.
